From July 19th to 23th 2010, continuous education was held at Technical School of Medical Care (TSMC). It was a long week for the training and everyone really enjoyed it. The training was hosted by Veterans International with collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) and Disabled Action Center (DAC) and with cost-sharing among the 5 organizations namely Veterans International (VI), Handicap International-Belgium (HIB), Handicap International-France (HIF), the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), and the Cambodia Trust (CT).

The opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Sem Sokha, Secretary of State of MoSVY and the closing ceremony was presided over by H.E. Prak Chanthoeun, General Director of Technical Directorate.

The theoretical part was conducted  at TSMC and the practical part was conducted at Kien Khleang National Physical Rehabilitation Center (run by VI). The program of the training can be downloaded from here.

The training started with a presentation of Spasticity in Cerebral Palsy presented by Dr. Jane Wu, a Rehabilitation Doctor from Australia. She also discussed Stroke including risk factor and rehabilitation. The different type of stroke were discussed and the emphasis was placed on prevention of stroke.

Mrs. Fiona Morgan who spent most of here treating cerebral palsied kids discussed about common seating problems in cerebral palsy. She brought up a few study cases for the participants to discuss. The participants were divided into small group to work on each case. All participants and facilitators (Samedy Srors, Bak Tokyo, Nom Channa and Chap Sarun) shared the experience from their practice in the real world to each other regarding management of stroke and CP. Problems in different areas such as device fitting and follow up where just a few examples to mention here.

On Thursday, all participants were divided into 3 group to assess 3 cerebral palsied children, to fabricate 3 trolley and to finally fit them with the trolley. The participants showed different techniques in manufacturing as well as criticized the model or design produced by anther group. This was a valuable learning experience for everyone.

At the end of the training, Mr. Nom Channa gave a presentation on Trolley Follow Up in the Community. This presentation was based on his experience working at Prey Veng Physical Rehabilitation Center (run by VI).
