Cambodian Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists was shaped with the support from a number of non-government organizations such as The Cambodia Trust, Handicaps International, The International Committee of Red Cross, and Veterans International of Cambodia.

In 2002, KhAPO was officially recognized by the Royal Government of Cambodia. The mission statement of this association is “to enhance the quality of services of prosthetics and orthotics in the field to a high standard of practice in terms of prosthetic and orthotic care provision to people with disability (PWD) in Cambodia”.

Objectives

KhAPO is a non-profit and non-governmental body. It liases the governmental sectors on disabilities and NGOs which are operating in the fied of physical rehabilitation across Cambodia. The establishment of the association is targeted the following objectives:

  1. to preserve professional ethics;
  2. to share experience in rehabilitation field;
  3. to build a network of communication among trained prosthetists and orthotists in the field;
  4. to expand and continue educational development for P&O in Cambodia;
  5. to improve the quality of prosthetics and orthotics services to people with disability; and
  6. to raise awareness both locally and internationally on the activities and prosthetics and orthotics care for people with disabilities.
