Establishment of the associationDuring the first prosthetics and orthotics national congress in 2001, the idea of establishing an association was adopted. The proposed names was Cambodian Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (KHAPO). At the second national congress in 2002, the association was formed. It was officially recognized by The Royal Government of Cambodia through the registration with The Ministry of Interior. the Mission Statement of KHAPO, is to "enhance the quality of services of prosthetics and orthotics in the field to a high standard of practice in terms of prosthetics and orthotics care provision to people with disabilities (PWD) in Cambodia". Cambodia Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists is a non-profit body and was shaped with the support fro various International Organization (IO) and International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) providing rehabilitation services. These IOs/INGOs include The Cambodia Trust (CT), Veterans International (VI), Handicaps International (HI) and The International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC).
ObjectivesKHAPO is a non-profit and non-governmental body. It liaises the government sectors on disabilities and NGOs IOs/INGOs, which are operating in the field of physical rehabilitation across Cambodia. The establishment of the association is targeted the following objectives:
